During storage, the stability of kraft paper window bags directly affects their performance and safety in subsequent use, and environmental factors are often the key cause of kraft paper deterioration. As a packaging material primarily made of wood fibers, kraft paper's physical and chemical properties are easily affected by humidity, temperature, light, air composition, and microbial activity. Therefore, scientifically planning the storage environment is the primary task in preventing deterioration.

Humidity control is a core aspect of kraft paper window bag storage. Kraft paper is highly hygroscopic; when the ambient humidity is too high, the fibers absorb moisture from the air, causing the paper to swell, soften, and even wrinkle or stick together. This change not only damages the flatness of the window bag, affecting printing quality and the normal operation of automated packaging equipment, but may also reduce the paper's tensile strength, increasing the risk of breakage. Conversely, if the environment is too dry, excessive moisture loss from the kraft paper fibers causes the paper to become brittle and prone to breakage, especially at the window area, where increased brittleness may lead to tearing. Therefore, storage warehouses need to be equipped with professional dehumidification and humidification equipment to maintain humidity within a relatively stable range through real-time monitoring and adjustment, preventing irreversible physical deformation of kraft paper due to humidity fluctuations.

Temperature management is equally crucial. High temperatures accelerate the oxidative decomposition of cellulose in kraft paper, leading to yellowing and reduced strength. It can also cause pigments in printing inks to fade or migrate, affecting the appearance of window bags. Furthermore, increased temperature exacerbates moisture evaporation from the air, indirectly causing localized humidity imbalances and further threatening the stability of the kraft paper. While low temperatures can inhibit oxidation, excessively low temperatures can cause kraft paper to become brittle due to fiber shrinkage, especially under repeated freeze-thaw cycles, which can damage the internal structure of the paper. Therefore, storage warehouses should be constructed with insulating materials and use air conditioning systems to control the temperature within a suitable range, avoiding long-term damage to the kraft paper from extreme temperatures.

Light exposure is another important factor causing chemical deterioration of kraft paper. The lignin and cellulose in kraft paper are prone to photo-oxidation under ultraviolet (UV) radiation, leading to darkening, increased brittleness, and even powdering. This change is particularly noticeable at window areas, as transparent window materials may not completely block UV rays, exposing the kraft paper directly to sunlight. To minimize the impact of light, storage warehouses should use blackout curtains or low-transmittance roofing materials to avoid direct sunlight. Simultaneously, low-UV lighting fixtures should be used within the warehouse, and lighting duration should be controlled to reduce the kraft paper's exposure time.

Oxygen and pollutants in the air also pose a potential threat to kraft paper window bags. Oxygen is a major factor initiating kraft paper oxidation, especially in high-temperature and high-humidity environments, where the oxidation reaction accelerates, leading to a decrease in paper strength. Furthermore, pollutants such as sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides in the air may react chemically with components in kraft paper, producing acidic substances that further corrode the paper fibers. To improve air quality, storage warehouses can install air purification systems, conduct regular ventilation, and avoid storing items containing volatile chemicals to reduce the harmful effects of pollutants on the kraft paper.

Microbial activity is a hidden but dangerous cause of kraft paper deterioration. In humid environments, mold, bacteria, and other microorganisms easily multiply on the surface of kraft paper, decomposing the cellulose and lignin in the paper, leading to mold growth, discoloration, and even unpleasant odors. This deterioration not only affects the appearance and hygiene of the window bags but can also contaminate the food or medicines packaged inside. To inhibit microbial growth, storage warehouses must be kept clean and dry, disinfected regularly, and environmentally friendly anti-mold agents should be sprayed or applied to the surface of the kraft paper to form a protective barrier.

Storage of kraft paper window bags also requires attention to stacking methods and periodic management. Prolonged heavy pressure can cause kraft paper deformation, especially at the window area where concentrated localized stress can cause breakage. Therefore, pallets or shelves should be used for layered stacking, controlling the height and weight of each layer. At the same time, the "first-in, first-out" principle should be followed to prevent the kraft paper from naturally aging due to prolonged storage, ensuring it maintains optimal performance during use.
